All my life I have written. I received a journal when I was in fourth grade and immediately started writing about how much I hated my brothers. In time the writing morphed into doodles and hearts and words lamenting after boys in high school. It then became the conversation I had with myself about life and yearning for things not yet come to pass. As I traveled around the world it became a record of thoughts that I was lucky enough to think upon inspired from other people and their cultures. As a mother my journals became very sparsely written due to sheer exhaustion and a new focus on that which was not myself.
As my boys grow up and I’m faced with a little more time my writing is becoming more urgent. I realize that when putting pen to paper or finger to keyboard I am doing what I was meant to do in this world. In writing this blog I have found an audience, and am finally able to share thoughts that have always been private. It is frightening and also liberating.
Last night my cousin told me that she thought I was courageous for launching my words out into space and sharing them with the world. This made me contemplate the word courage which stems from the word coeur. As so many of us know, coeur is French for heart. I’m struck by the fact that it takes heart to expose ourselves to the world. Perhaps that’s why things written from the heart are received most voraciously by the audience. In baring
our soul we connect with the reader and that makes it all worthwhile.
As I reach the milestone of 100 followers I am struck by a vision of 100 people in a room holding a book that I wrote. This image gives me chills and propels me forward into more writing and more sharing and more courage. I sincerely thank you all for being part of this journey and for helping me do what I’ve always wanted to do. I am a writer.

Congrats on the 100 follows! And you’re right. It’s frightening to think that SOMEONE is out there, reading what you’ve written on your blog. In a way, it kinda motivates you because despite pouring your heart’s content, your audience gives you that little voice inside your head that says “hey, THIS is your calling. THIS is what you’re meant to do.”

It’s like Stephen King said the inspiration comes in the form of two thoughts that converge and it’s our job to write them. The converging thoughts are often shared between writers so we inspire each other into our work.

Yes, I don’t think there’s anything new under the Sun it’s just our interpretation of it that brings new life to it. I think the expanding human experience is just about thinking about things in a new way and pushing the limits.

Yes, exactly! It often only needs different words to explain or remember the same things. That way there is a teacher and an audience for everyone.

Have you ever read an account of history written by two different authors? It allows you to realize that perspective is king.

I can’t agree more with S. King’s opinion on the subject. I really enjoyed his book, On Writing.
I have been asked, “Where does it come from,” myself. All I know to do is shrug my shoulders and point to my head.

WOW you literally read my mind, i too am a young blogger and it always amazes me the courage and bravery i summon to launch my ‘heart’ as you called into the blogsphere with all the public rebuke that can be even that rebuke of having few readers.I can’t admit to have been a writer always but never have i stopped thinking ,for the most part i talk to myself aloud (crazy right) and i always have so my blog is simply put God’s gift to my voice.Even while pursuing my burdensome yet wonderful math degree i can’t not write, what started as a hobby is now my main pre-occupation(when i’m not reading awesome blogs or math).
And as I grow and mature both in speech and experience i foresee that i may have to halt everything else if only to write a few sentences because the need to write is growing exponentially.
I applaud you on your 100 followers milestone although i’m sure they’re more now and wish you well in this merry journey of telling that you are on.

Getting a response like this is what I seek when writing. It’s a lone experience, thinking and mulling over random musings. When a reader connects with the work it’s like an affirmation that we are far from alone in this world. Thank you for taking the time to write and share.
Ps.. I talk to myself all the time. Sometimes it’s the best conversation I have all day. Me and I see eye to eye on a lot of things 😉
